- UK Visa decisions are made by UKVI, which works under the Home Office.
- Decisions are made in the UK so the Foreign Office have no say on the outcomes.
- Visa officers look at each applicants’ financial circumstances at home.
- They look at regular incomes, as evidenced by bank account statements.
- They are not just looking at the amount of an account for regular income streams – indeed a large amount can be taken in or out quickly – but regular income streams demonstrate that the applicant is employed or running a business that pay the applicant a salary here.
- It is important to note if the applicant also has external support, but it is not sufficient to highlight that someone external will be looking after the applicant during their stay in the UK. They do check discrepancies – so if there are discrepancies e.g. between salary and bank statements that should be explained. Beyond income, visa officers also take a view on the planned expenditure, and whether the applicants has sufficient means to support these.
